Join the Timothy Smith Network Team

In 1996 then Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the City of Boston established the Timothy Smith Fund for
Old Roxbury using Timothy Smith’s gift. The fund established technology and computer learning centers
– now called Timothy Smith Technology Labs (TSTLs) in non-profit organizations located in Roxbury. In
2003, the Timothy Smith Network (TSN) was established as a not-for-profit organization to administer
the Timothy Smith Fund.

The Timothy Smith Network (TSN) continues to be committed to supporting the creation of an inclusive
technology workforce by providing demographics that are underrepresented in technology with the
tools necessary to compete for careers in 21st century tech-focused industries.

Timothy Smith Network launched the Boston Design Academy (BDA) in 2018, in partnership with the
City of Boston, Microsoft, Boston Public Library, and Boston Public Schools (BPS) to provide BPS high
school students with the opportunity to explore potential career pathways through project-based
learning and collaborations with the institutions, companies and individuals that drive Boston’s
innovation ecosystem. Students are provided with supplies, tools, and training to enhance their
understanding of applied science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).
